$454,000 in 3 years for Macarthur cancer services

The 24 Hour Fight Against Cancer Macarthur provides much needed funds for the Macarthur Cancer Therapy Centre at Campbelltown Hospital and the Palliative Care Unit at Camden Hospital.

Did you know that 100 per cent of the proceeds goes towards supporting local patients in these facilities?

Over 1000 people took part in last year’s 24 hour weekend event and many more attended a range of other functions.

Overall, an outstanding $179,000 was collected for the cause.

This brings the total amount raised by the Macarthur community, in just three years, to an incredible $454,000.

The generosity shown by residents and businesses across the region means that the Cancer Therapy Centre

and the Palliative Care Unit can provide the ‘extras’ not available in other cancer centres.

Significant amounts of ‘state of the art’ medical equipment and up to date reference materials for use by staff and patients have been purchased.

Another great example of innovative and practical use of this funding is the production of an award winning DVD by

staff at the Macarthur Cancer Therapy Centre.

This take-home educational DVD for use by patients and

their families explains many aspects of the treatment ahead.

In addition, a brand new 12 seater, fully wheelchair

accessible bus has been funded by the 24 Hour Fight Against Cancer Macarthur to transport patients from Camden and Campbelltown to and from their chemotherapy treatments and radiation sessions.

Music and art therapy is also now able to be provided to

reduce stress levels in patients and assist in their recovery and care.
