Farmer frustrated

7/10/2008 10:29:00 AM
MACARTHUR federal MP Pat Farmer admits he does not like being in Opposition and the role he is obliged to play because

of it.

He said if people visited Parliament House, they would appreciate what he was saying.

``It's hard for people to understand because it looks like this almighty place that is a place of power but the majority of time is wasted trying to find negativity in the government of the day when there's not always negativity there,'' Mr Farmer.

``To be honest, there's sometimes very good and valid reasons why the Government is doing what they are.

``I'm not going to spend my whole life being negative because that's not my job.

``My job is being positive and changing people's lives.''

He said he had always liked helping people, whether it be through his work with charities or within politics.

``We've done some incredible things and we continue to do that but not anywhere near the scale that justifies what my potential is to help people,'' he said.

``I think I can do more.''

When asked whether he could do more outside of politics, Mr Farmer said: ``You're not restrained as much outside of politics.''
