TEN local seniors traded their reading glasses for swimming goggles recently to complete a Grey Medallion course at Wollondilly Community Leisure Centre.

The NSW Royal Life Saving course is a seniors version of the Bronze Medallion but skills based without assessment.

Learn To Swim co-ordinator Christine Morrison said the seniors visited the centre two hours each week for six weeks. ``This was a pilot project for over55s,'' she said.

``The participants learned water safety knowledge, personal survival skills, basic rescue skills, aquatic exercise, resuscitation and emergency care.''

The seniors were presented with a certificate of participation by the Illawarra regional manager for Royal Lifesaving last week.

Ms Morrison said staff member Tammy Taylor did a fantastic job running the course at the centre.

``The seniors are keen to further their education, which is really good,'' she said.

``This has motivated them to keep going.''
