RESIDENTS at Queen Victoria Memorial Home will benefit from a new motorised movement trainer thanks to a night of glitz and glamour.
The $8655 chair was bought with the money raised at this year's Macarthur Mayor's Charity Ball. Wollondilly Mayor Judy Hannan chose the home as her charity for this year.
She said that the residents living at QV had done much for the community throughout the years so it was really nice to do something for them.
``This machine can mean the difference between residents staying in wheelchairs or actually getting up and walking,'' she said.
The chair will arrive within a month.
Assistant physiotherapist at the home Barbara Whitton said the Motomed Viva 2 would benefit a lot of the residents at QV.
``The chair can be used for residents suffering from stroke, arthritis, dementia and other medical conditions,'' she said.
``It has a passive and active mode on it so residents who are mobile can use the bike to exercise and paralysed residents can also use it because the machine will help them do the work.''
Mrs Whitton said the new machine would replace a 15-year-old machine currently being used at the home.
``We are absolutely over the moon because it cost a lot of money and will benefit so many people,'' she said. ``Having people like the mayor interested in aged care and giving our residents a better quality of life is wonderful.''
