Rose will be riding his luck in Beijing

WEROMBI rider Shane Rose will make his debut at the Beijing Olympic Games as part of the Australian equestrian team.

Rose's selection was announced last week as selectors picked five debutants for Australia's Olympic three-day event team.

Relieved at being part of the elite equestrian team, Rose will feature in three days of fierce competition in three disciplines: dressage, cross-country and showjumping.

He will be hoping his equestrian skills can combine with his horse living up to its name All Luck.

``He's a 13-year-old thoroughbred horse,'' Rose said.

``He's a very good horse, the best I've ever had.

``We're preparing for the Olympics the same way as we would for any competition.

``The reality is it's just another competition, so there'll be no changing the preparation process that got us selected.''

No competitor will have an advantage over another rider as far as riding experience on the course goes.

It has been built for the Olympic Games and will be unknown territory for all riders.

Although the eyes of the world will be on Rose when he is competing, he believes he can remain calm and be competitive.

``With any competition there is some anxiety to perform well and do the best you can,'' Rose said.

``The team is going to be very competitive.

``After the team event the top 20 riders are decided and go into the individual events for medals.

``Sure, there will be a lot of people wishing me well and I'm certainly going there to perform well and to win.

``It's a big competition and at the end of the day, I'm on my own out there riding.''

Australia's best wishes will be with Rose when he heads to China on July 30.
