AS we approach the end of the winter sport season, it is time for many clubs to reflect on their achievements.

For some clubs it may have been a season to forget.

These clubs know who they are, so there is no need to draw any more unwanted attention to them.

Other clubs may have excelled and surpassed previous years' performances.

My advice to the powers-that-be in charge of the clubs who struggled to achieve is not to forget the horrendous season, but not to dwell on it either.

Learn from the mistakes made throughout the season and come back bigger and better next year and make those affiliated with the club proud of ``their team''.

For the clubs who believe they have been involved in a season to be proud of, there is no need to rest on your laurels. These clubs can cement the foundations of their success and improve on it for next season.

Meantime, if there was an award for club of the year in this region, it might not necessarily go to the team that was undefeated this season. Some clubs have recorded fantastic performances throughout the year as battlers contending with adversity.

If I had to nominate a club of the year there would be a few that spring to mind for various reasons.

It could be a school team that has fought all year for a win, but who still enjoyed their time together on the paddock in a bond of camaraderie playing sport. At the other end of the spectrum, in Wollondilly, is the Thirlmere/Tahmoor rugby league team who posted an undefeated season on the way to winning the grand final.

And Macarthur Rams women's soccer team who have continued their winning ways this year and have reached the grand final.

There are too many teams to mention who I could make a case for for various reasons.

All Macarthur and Wollondilly's teams will be able to look back on their highlights and be proud of what they have achieved this year for one reason or another.

Whether a change of officials is needed or a recruitment drive for next year, clubs throughout the region have all through the off-season to rectify previous problems and make amends before the start of next season's winter codes.
